A small band of student thespians at Thomas Aquinas College, California, treated their friends and tutors to a powerful performance of Robert Bolt’s A Man For All Seasons on October 8.

The play, which inspired the beloved 1966 film, tells the story of St. Thomas More’s courageous refusal to condone King Henry VIII’s divorce from his first wife and subsequent marriage to Anne Boleyn. His staunch but peaceful resistance to Henry’s usurpation of Church authority led to his martyrdom in 1535.

Every semester at Thomas Aquinas College, students and faculty gather for one-off All-College Seminars that combine students from every class to discuss a great book, often fiction, that is not part of the ordinary curriculum. At California’s Seminar last Friday, the campus was abuzz with conversation about Thornton Wilder’s Pulitzer-winning novella, The Bridge of San Luis Rey.
