Summer Progam students on the California campus

We now interrupt our New England High School Summer programming to bring you … the two-week California High School Program, which begins today!

Students have arrived on campus throughout the day, ready to experience classes, friendship, and fun at Thomas Aquinas College! Attendees come from all across the country and beyond, with some traveling from as far as Canada, Mexico, and Spain. Prefects, who are current TAC students and alumni serving as counselors on the Program, warmly welcomed the summer attendees and their family members who arrived by car. Other prefects met the high schoolers at Los Angeles International Airport and returned with them on buses. Whether they made the trip to campus by car or by bus, the participants had to make a winding detour through the mountains surrounding the College, since the shortest route to the campus has been blocked by a mudslide since February!

As students arrived on campus, prefects led them to their residence halls, where they will be living for the next two weeks. They unpacked, explored their new surroundings, and introduced themselves to their fellow attendees. Though most are now strangers, they will spend the next two weeks together living in community, engaging in deep conversations about the Great Books, experiencing the spiritual life of the College, and forging new friendships with each other.

The Summer Program prefects are just as eager as the students for the program to begin! “We’re all so excited to spend this time with you, to play sports with you, do your readings with you, and have good conversations with you,” said head womens’ prefect Elena Walz (’26)

Later today, the students will gather for a campus tour, opening barbeque, and orientation meetings before jumping into tomorrow’s first day of classes. A recap of this evening's events, along with photos, will be posted tomorrow morning here on the Summer Program Blog. Be sure to come back throughout the program for twice-daily updates!
