Having been a mostly empty and quiet place since the end of the High School Summer Program in July, Thomas Aquinas College, New England, was ready to welcome the Class of 2028 when it arrived on Friday!

The day began with freshman check-in at Bl. Frassati Student Center. Prefects and Admissions officials laid out snacks, schedules, and name tags for the incoming students and their families. As the sun rose high over Mt. Monadnock, the newcomers started trickling in to be greeted by enthusiastic and welcoming staff.

Freshmen mingled, some meeting for the first time, others joyfully reuniting with friends from the Summer Program or last spring’s Open House. Parents chatted, getting to know other families whose children had likewise chosen to study the Great Books.

“I love that the education at TAC is so complete and integrated,” said incoming freshman Connor Linnus. “It’s the whole package.” After checking in, many freshmen headed to their residence halls to begin unpacking before lunch.

Later in the afternoon, Admissions Counselors Jean Guerrero and Andrew Grumbine led parents on a guided tour of campus, highlighting the beautiful colonial architecture and history in each of the buildings. Head Chaplain Rev. Greg Markey gave a tour of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, explaining how the building had been updated and restored as a place of worship for the College’s students and faculty.

Following a dinner of lemon salmon, rice, and asparagus, parents attended an orientation meeting and wine-and-cheese party, while freshmen and their siblings made their way to Frassati for an ice-cream social. Students and their siblings alike enjoyed intense matches of foosball as they learned new faces and names.

Gradually, students returned to their residence halls to get a good night’s sleep before Saturday’s Convocation. Echoing the mindset of her entire class, incoming freshman Madi Rogers exclaimed, “I’m so excited!”
