Students play basketball

Last year Luke Cecchi (’24) discovered the National Club Basketball Association (NCBBA), an organization dedicated to helping collegiate club teams compete with other schools in their region without sacrificing their studies for athletics. The NCBBA stood out to Luke, an avid basketball player who wanted to play more sports throughout the year. “This league is really ideal,” he says. “We’ll be able to play other colleges, but not make it the center of what each of us as students are living for.”

With the approval of President Dr. Paul O’Reilly and Assistant Dean Dr. Patrick Gardner, Luke has set about assembling a TAC club team for the next season, scouting potential players during the campus intramural basketball season. “We’ve gotten to the point where there are a lot of really good basketball players on campus,” he said. “I found enough guys who were interested and ready to commit some time to the team, and we started practicing.”

The NCBBA season begins in November, TAC sharing a region with schools in both Boston and Worcester. November is still a few months away, however, and the growing team is itching to begin. “There’s been a great atmosphere here the past couple of times we’ve played Thomas More College, and I’d like to build the TAC team spirit,” says Luke. “I think this is a really great way to bring the community together, so I can’t wait to start the season this year!”
