Students arrive on the California campus

For the last week, this blog has been running posts from the High School Summer Program in New England. We now broaden our focus to include reports from the California campus, which begins its Summer Program today!

Nearly 150 students arrived, starting early this morning, from all manner of places — the American East and West coast, everywhere in between, and numerous spots abroad, including Ireland, the UK, Mexico, and Argentina! A crew of prefects, clad in red Summer Program t-shirts, was on hand at Los Angeles International Airport to help the new arrivals make their way to campus …

The next two weeks promise a taste of life at Thomas Aquinas College. Attendees will be immersed in the Discussion Method as they work together with their peers to better understand a carefully curated selection of the Great Books. They will also partake in the spiritual life of the College and enjoy a wide range of fun recreational activities — plus exciting excursions, such as trips to the Getty Center, the Hollywood Bowl, the beach, and historic Santa Barbara.

The remainder of today, though, promises a simpler time of welcome and familiarization. There will be an orientation meeting and tour, a barbeque with parents, and fun ice-breakers, all of which will be covered — with plenty of photos! — in tomorrow morning’s post.

We will be publishing updates from California, alongside those from New England, twice on most days, so please  visit the Summer Blog!
