Fr. Buckley Returns to Celebrate Seniors at President’s Dinner
When members of the Thomas Aquinas College Class of 2022 gathered for the annual President’s Dinner on Wednesday night, they were greeted by a beloved and surprise guest: the great Fr. Buckley.
A recently retired TAC chaplain, Rev. Cornelius M. Buckley, S.J, returned to the California campus to celebrate with the soon-to-be graduates in advance of their Saturday Commencement. Just as the seniors were sitting to dinner, Dean John Goyette sped into St. Joseph Commons on a golf cart with Fr. Buckley — as witty as ever, and wearing a Darth Vader mask — in the passenger seat.
From there, the dinner continued as normal, with members of the faculty and staff bidding farewell to the graduating class. The president, dean, and assistant dean all spoke to the seniors, and seniors presented their class gift to the College: artwork for the classrooms in St. Augustine Hall. The event concluded with a round of toasts, after which seniors and tutors capped off the night with a round of off-campus bowling.
“You have been diligent students and faithful members of the community,” said President McLean. “You have worked hard at your studies, helped to foster healthy friendships, contributed to the common good, and tended to your spiritual well-being. We thank and commend you for those gifts, and we thank you for what you have given to Thomas Aquinas College.”
