Dear TAC-California Families,

With reports of Tropical Storm Hilary dominating the news, you may have concerns about the safety of your students who are either on the California campus or on their way.

We have been monitoring the storm closely, and forecasts continue to show the campus as on the outer edge of the storm’s projected path. We expect rain throughout the day and tomorrow, which will be at its heaviest tonight, plus strong winds, but we do not expect any significant damage. Local authorities have thus far issued no flood or mudslide warnings.

The College is encouraging those students who are already on campus to avoid the roads when the rains are heavy and to stay out of the Los Padres National Forest. For those making their way to campus today, we recommend coming as early as possible and closely monitoring your route to make sure it remains safe. We will continue to keep a close eye on conditions and take any measures necessary to ensure the safety or our students and the campus. Your prayers, as always, are greatly appreciated.

We still very much look forward to marking the formal start of the academic year with Convocation on Monday morning — and the first upper-level seminars Monday night!

Sincerely,

Michael J. Letteney
Dean
