This past Sunday, the seniors of Thomas Aquinas College, California, welcomed the freshmen with a trip to the beach for a well-earned break after a busy first week of school.

After Mass, the two classes caravanned to Rincon Point, about 14 miles north of Ventura. Students played volleyball and spikeball, while many swam in the Pacific waves and others simply sat back on towels and made conversation under the August sun. Seniors enjoyed making new friends and reviving old friendships after a summer apart, while the freshmen got to know each other and the upperclassmen in a friendly, informal atmosphere.

As the sun dipped toward the horizon, the caravan began its way back to campus — though not without making the traditional pit stop at In-N-Out Burger. The two classes returned satisfied and smiling (if a little red) before hunkering down to dig into this week’s theorems and seminar readings.
