Last Saturday, on the St. Gladys Patio beneath a starry Spring night, the Class of 2022 hosted peers and friends for the annual “Chez Martin” dance.  Illuminated by lights strung overhead, the Salinas Ensemble — led by pianist Danny Salinas— (’22) played live jazz featuring several rotating student performers. Throughout the dance, student enjoyed limbo competitions and funny anecdotes from the soon-to-be-departing seniors.

For this, the final all-campus dance of the year, the seniors chose the theme of “Starry Night” — the same theme they chose for the first dance they hosted four years ago. Banners bearing Van Gogh’s painting of the same name adorned the space. “It was really cool seeing how far our class has come” reflected Nicole Walshe (’22).

Maintaining the nostalgia, for the pre-dance entertainment the seniors played the same short film they produced during their freshman year. “It was really sweet and pretty funny,” said Katelyn Woods (’25). “It was a great way for them to reminisce on their time together.”

Swing dancing and waltzing filled the dance floor, with students moving electrically one moment to a fast song, then enjoying the steady slowness of another. Dancing went late into the night. “That was one of my favorite dances of the year,” said Trinity Chester (’25). “It was really bittersweet with it being the year’s last dance. It was a great reminder of the community we have here.”
