With the semester’s end drawing near, the Senior Class on both campuses commemorated the upcoming season with the College’s traditional Christmas dance — a festive event enjoyed not only by students, but faculty, staff, and their families as well!

In St. Joseph Commons in California, as in the Bl. Frasatti Student Center in New England, both dances sported Christmas decorations, festive lights, and seasonal hors d’ouevres. The dances began with a customary series of live performances culminating in a visit from none other than Santa Claus, who read “A Visit from St. Nicholas” aloud for the faculty children. From there followed some Christmas-carol sing-alongs and then the dancing itself.

A ways into the dances, the floors cleared for the annual waltz competition. Couples took their marks and danced with every bit of grace and technique they could muster.

The crowd watched each round, rapt by the skill on display. Judged on form, musicality, and complexity, the competitors embraced their inner Victorian royalty to gracefully glide across the floor. After three rounds, Greg Roberts (’25) and Brigit McNeil (’23) took first in place California, while Andrew Le (’25) and Eleanor Stoutz (’27) came out on top in  New England.

Dancing and friendly conversation carried on into the night on both coasts. With the end of the semester and the year nigh, the dances made for a wonderful way to celebrate the forthcoming Christmas Season — before students leave home for break — among their community of friends.
