Sanctuary of Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel

On Monday workers installed four saintly statues in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, thereby completing the transformation of its sanctuary.

Above the tabernacle, flanking the Gothic crucifix, now stands carvings of the Blessed Mother and St. John the Beloved. On either side of this Crucifixion scene are two niches, in which appear statues of St. Thomas Aquinas, the venerable patron of the College, and St. John Henry Newman, a champion of Catholic liberal education.

Constructed in 1909 for a school founded by the charismatic evangelist Dwight L. Moody, the erstwhile Russell Sage Chapel was designed for Protestant worship and, as such, lacked many of the essentials for Catholic liturgy. Upon acquiring the New England campus in 2017, the College began the process of transforming the building for Catholic worship, renaming it in honor of Our Mother of Perpetual Help.  With the installation of the new statues, the Chapel’s transformation is now one large step closer to completion.

Our Mother of Perpetual Help, pray for us!
