With late-arriving checks finally counted, it can now safely be determined that friends of Thomas Aquinas College contributed more than $1 million to the 2022 Friends Week of Giving, which ran during the last week of June. “Every morning, as the week progressed, I found myself newly inspired by our friends’ generosity,” observes Karim Obagi, director of annual giving. “Their confidence in the College’s mission rejuvenated my own dedication, as well!”

The Friends Week of Giving is the last and most extensive of TAC’s three major annual fundraising efforts, preceded by the Alumni Day of Giving in March and the Parent Day of Giving in May. Whereas in those two initiatives the College relies on the help of those who know the College “from within,” the Friends Week of Giving depends entirely on benefactors who know and respect the College through its reputation and influence in the wider culture.

This year, when economic setbacks have abounded, the College’s friends exceeded even the most optimistic expectations. Including a $500,000 matching gift from an anonymous benefactor, the Week finished with $1,021,592 to support student financial aid. In conjunction with the other fundraising efforts as well as other grants and gifts, the College raised a total of $15 million in its recently concluded fiscal year— roughly a 6 percent jump from the previous year.

“We’re grateful for the generosity of the College’s many friends,” says James Link, Thomas Aquinas College’s vice president for advancement. “Despite economic uncertainty and rising inflation, they recognized the enduring value of a rigorous and thoroughly Catholic liberal education. TAC’s benefactors enable our students to grow in wisdom, virtue, and holiness, as they prepare to renew the culture.”
