Dr. Ron McArthur

On Tuesday, October 17, Thomas Aquinas College will mark the 10th anniversary of the passing of its founding president, Dr. Ronald P. McArthur, by hosting a Missa Cantata on both campuses.

In California, alumnus Norbertine priest Rev. Hildebrand (James ’78) Garceau, O.Praem., will offer the Mass at 11:15 a.m. in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, accompanied by the College’s Chant Schola, under the direction of Tutor Dr. John Nieto (’89). In New England, Head Chaplain Rev. Greg Markey will offer the Mass at 4:45 p.m. in Our Mother of the Perpetual Help Chapel, with music by the College Choir, directed by Stephen Grimm (’75).

“By the sheer force of his intellect and personality, Dr. McArthur brought together a small group of tutors, governors, benefactors, and students, to implement the College’s founding document, A Proposal for the Fulfillment of Catholic Liberal Education,” observes Director of Special Projects Anne S. Forsyth (’81).“Having successfully established the College, he then sustained the young community for 20 years, guiding it with prudence and an unfailing confidence in the excellence of our academic program and the goodness of the moral and spiritual life it cultivated.”

Alumni, benefactors, and other friends of the College are all welcome to attend. “Join us at Mass, on one campus or the other, to pray for the repose of Dr. McArthur’s soul and to give thanks for the immeasurable good he accomplished,” adds Mrs. Forsyth. “If you cannot be with us in person, please join with us in prayer.”
