This week, students at Thomas Aquinas College enjoyed their semiannual Don Rags recess, which brings with it a beloved tradition, Open Mic Night — showcasing the varied talents on both campuses.

In New England, Olivia Music Hall’s piano featured in seven solo acts as well as a piano-violin duet. There were classical performances, a sibling country duo, some poetry, and even a lively Irish jig!

Meanwhile, in California’s St. Joseph Commons, students took to the stage alone or in groups to play both well-known and original music, including Portuguese love songs, rousing tunes for American fiddle, and a piece for classical guitar. But the stage welcomed more than musical acts: Some students recited original poetry or presented stand-up comedy bits.

“I’m loving the acts this year,” said Emma Saba (CA’26) at intermission. “They’re all great!” When all was said and done, students returned to their residence halls uplifted by their friends’ talents.
