Students at blackboard

Somehow we have reached the second-to-last day of the 2021 California Summer High School Program. It’s hard to believe that these two weeks are quickly drawing to a close!

The group seemed to recover well from all of last night’s activities, waking up bright and early this morning. After Mass and breakfast, students gathered for Euclid, demonstrating for their peers the equality of vertical angles and exploring the properties of right angles in several fascinating props. Attendees are daily becoming more comfortable with these presentations, and everyone is thoroughly enjoying the challenging but rewarding study of geometry.

After class many students worshipped at the midday Mass in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, followed by a scrumptious Mexican lunch in St. Joseph’s Commons. The group is now back in the classroom, finishing up Boethius’ Consolation of Philosophy, specifically Lady Philosophy’s persistent and convincing arguments about Divine Providence and eternal happiness — which eventually win over the imprisoned Boethius.

“I love the school so, so much, and I love being here and doing everything that the school is about,” reflects second-time prefect Bella Sanchez (’23), offering her thoughts on the past several days. “From the intellectual part of it, with all the beautiful things we get to read about; the spiritual side of it, being able to grow so deeply in the Faith; and then to the social and fun side, I’m just so grateful to have the opportunity to share that with all of these students, because I think those are the three fundamental things we need in this world that help us become the people we need to be.”

This evening features a prefects vs. students soccer match as well as a final dance practice. We will have an update and photos tomorrow morning on the SummerBlog!
