Women do sit-ups in the gym

Having exercised their minds at Tuesday’s classes, students on the New England High School Summer Program moved on to exercising their bodies during the afternoon recreation period. On the athletic field, they played volleyball, soccer, and frisbee; in the gym, they worked out on the treadmills and in the weight room, while a group of guys played a game of basketball. The pool was open as well, and many students swam with their friends to beat the heat and cool off from their other activities.

For dinner, the kitchen offered appropriately messy Sloppy Joes alongside fries and cauliflower and accompanied by plenty of enjoyable conversation. Students then found their way to study hall in Dolben Library, where they carefully examined the first 11 chapters of the Book of Genesis for the next day’s classes.

Having read the Biblical account of Creation, students next went to Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel to give thanks to Creator at the nightly Rosary:

At the subsequent social hour in the Bl. Frassati Student Center, the group enjoyed homemade iced mochas and potato chips. Card games were played, pool games were won, and friendships quickly grew closer as programmers discussed their common interests.

Finally, it was time for the dorm parties! Over in Gould Hall, the women’s prefects held a spa night, setting out face masks, nail polish, and foot baths — plus elegant charcuterie boards, which were very well received. The evening culminated with a dance party and a bonfire on the Gould Lawn. In St. Augustine Hall, things got much rowdier. Everyone competed in arm wrestling tournaments, man vs. man, until the matches culminated in an intense duel between programmer Alfred F. and prefect Sam Peterson. Alfred ended up winning the match, arousing wild whooping from students and prefects alike. The men also played dodgeball with wiffle balls, then devoured savory buffalo wings at a bonfire of their own, before heading to bed.
