Rising senior Kevin Murphy (NE’22) from St. Louis, Missouri, is returning for his third Summer Program on the New England campus this July. Like many of his fellow prefects, one of Kevin’s favorite moments during both of his previous years on the program was enjoying kayaking on the Connecticut River. “It is a perfect complement to the hard work students do in the classroom, and the Connecticut River is truly beautiful,” he says.

Kevin plans to delve deeply into the rich spiritual life offered during the two weeks of the program: “I’ve recognized each year that I’ve done the program the utmost importance of the time we spend in Mass, in praying the Rosary, and in our other devotions,” he attests. “I want to make that a bigger focus in my participation this summer!”

Kevin advises this year’s attendees to branch out beyond the first circle of friends they make upon their arrival. “Be willing to have conversations with everyone,” he says. “The people who could really change your life might not be the people you are most immediately drawn to.”

Kevin hopes to spend his free time this summer reading extracurricular material, as well as brushing up on his Latin. A talented athlete, he is nearly impossible to match on the soccer field. He is looking forward to facing off with this year’s attendees, so bring your cleats if you are up for a challenge!
