With a sizable population of South American students, Thomas Aquinas College, New England, has a distinct love for soccer. When a group from a classical high school in San Jose de Las Fuentes, Argentina, came to campus last week, the College hosted a friendly soccer match to draw the two schools closer together.

After a quick warmup game, the TACers took the field across from the Argentinians, who teamed up with the College’s Brazilian students to round out an All-South American squad. The game was short but intense, as the South Americans showed off their speed and teamwork, and Team TAC displayed excellent offensive tactics. Ultimately, the score was 3-1 in the College’s favor, but that didn’t stop Team TAC from congratulating its opponents on a game well played.

Later that evening, students from both schools gathered outside Bl. Frassati Student Center for a night of folk music and dancing. The Argentinians played some traditional songs and taught various line dances. The TACers returned the favor, leading their guests through a rowdy rendition of the Virginia Reel and introducing them to some popular U.S. and Irish folk songs.

“I had a great time,” said one Argentinian student. “We taught the Americans how to do some of our line dances, and they taught us some of theirs. It was fun to see how the styles of both were similar and different.”
