On Saturday Director of Student Services Mark Kretschmer presented a Career Strategies workshop about job discernment, networking, résumé- and cover-letter writing, and interview preparation. “One of the many blessings of a liberal education is that our graduates are prepared to pursue any line of work or studies,” says Mr. Kretschmer. “The key is that they take time to discern what they are being called to do, and that includes networking with professionals, including our alumni, to research various fields and explore their options.”

The next step, Mr. Kreschmer adds, is for students to devise a plan of action for their job search that makes the most of the education they have received. “Much of this workshop is dedicated to helping our students demonstrate — via a cover letter, or résumé, or interview — just how much they have to offer potential employers.”

The workshop is one of a series of events sponsored by the Office of Career Advisement, including recent panel discussions on business, medicine, architecture, nursing, and business and technology. On Tuesday, the office will host a talk by Catholic television host Daniel Rabourdin, who will offer advice for students who are interested in pursuing careers in television and film.

“It’s exciting for me to see how able and confident they are,” says Mr. Kretschmer, “and how eager they are to share the fruits of their education in the marketplace.”
