In order to promote learning and the intellectual life, the College does not participate in intercollegiate sports. “We want students to focus on their education first and foremost,” said Dr. Steven Cain, dean of the New England campus. “However, that is not to say we do not want students to engage in ordered forms of recreation.” Both the California and New England campuses offer thriving intramural sports programs, including baseball, soccer, football, and ultimate frisbee. Not only do these activities allow students to strengthen their bodies while taking a break from studies, they also bolster the campus community.

Each fall, students divide into volleyball teams and play against staff, faculty, and each other throughout the month of September. On Friday, spectators lined the edges of the field and the surrounding hill to watch the tutors take on the student team captained by Thomas Dula (’26) and the squad helmed by Dylan Peterson (’27) face off against the staff.

The tutors triumphed over the students, as did the staff. Students will have to up their game if they want to win next time!
