Rosary procession

The students, faculty, staff, chaplains, and families of Thomas Aquinas College, New England, set aside last Sunday night to honor the Blessed Mother with a candlelit procession on the eve of the Feast of Our Lady of the Rosary.

Also known as the Feast of Our Lady of Victory, this commemoration falls yearly on October 7 to mark the miraculous victory of the Catholic states over the Ottoman Empire in the 1571 battle of Lepanto. “Now, more than ever, our world, and especially our nation, need prayers,” said Rev. Greg Markey, head chaplain on the New England campus.

In the dark, crisp autumn evening, students gathered outside Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel to process around campus while praying the Rosary. It was a solemn and beautiful affair, with candles driving away the darkness of night and the prayers driving away the darkness of the world.

“Candlelit processions are so beautiful,” said Vinkah Preciado (’26). “They help me quiet my soul and focus on the prayers.” The procession made a loop of campus while praying the Glorious Mysteries and singing the Litany of Loretto before ending inside the Chapel. “I felt so at peace,” said Olivia Rosebrough (’26). “The Rosary is so powerful.”
