Parent Alumni Day

Whether coming to visit their children or to catch up with old friends, hundreds of members of the Thomas Aquinas College family traveled to the New England campus on October 12 for fellowship, scholarship, and fun at Alumni & Parent Day.

Following an opening Mass in Our Mother of Perpetual Help Chapel, the guests dug into a hearty brunch. They then headed to Billings Hall for a seminar entitled “In the Image of God.” In conversations led by President Paul J. O’Reilly and fellow members of the teaching faculty, participants discussed Genesis 1 and Question 93 of the Summa Theologiae, “On Whether Man Is Made in the Image of God,” diving deep into the teachings of the Church on the inherent dignity of the human person. Afterward, all refreshed themselves with coffee and continued conversation.

Next, alumni and parents faced off against current students in a basketball game in the Pope St. John Paull II Athletic Center. The alumni/parent squad proved to be the champion hoopsters, besting the students handily. Meanwhile, other guests tried their hand at some fine arts, painting with watercolors and engaging in conversations in front of St. Augustine Hall, after which President Paul J. O’Reilly, then gave a State of the College Address.

A signature barbeque dinner followed under the tent on Gould Lawn, where alumni, students, and parents mixed and mingled. Some reunited with old friends, while other families met for the first time. An ice cream social followed in Bl. Frassati Student Center, featuring sundaes heaped with whipped cream, chocolate syrup, and sprinkles.

The crown jewel of the day, however, came that evening, when the Senior Class staged a benefit concert to support its farewell gift to the College. Olivia Music Hall resounded with beautiful, student-performed classical pieces. “The concert was such a success,” said Agnes Umana (’25). “We’re much closer to our fundraising goal for our class gift thanks to everyone’s generosity!"
