Last weekend members of the Class of 2021 took a break from their studies for Sophomore Beach Day — a carefree evening of burgers and volleyball at nearby Rincon Beach. The highlight of the evening was the following fire poi performance from Garin Ballard (’21):

The son of an erstwhile professional acrobat, Garin teaches juggling, walking on globes, plate-spinning, and the art of Chinese yo-yo each summer at a camp in San Jose, California. “I don’t have a ton of time to practice during the academic year,” he says, but he was willing to bring out his Kevlar cubes — soaked in fuel — for the occasion. “The goal was to help build the sense of community at the event.”

Mission accomplished!
