Students Welcome the Class of 2023 on both Coasts!

Posted: September 17, 2019

Each fall at Thomas Aquinas College the sophomores, juniors, and seniors take turns staging welcome events for the new freshman class. This past weekend, the sophomores had their turn in New England, while the juniors had theirs in California.

In New England, the dance marked not only the first of the year, but the first ever on the newly opened campus. Fittingly, the sophomores dubbed it “The Inaugural Ball,” complete with formal attire and red-white-and-blue bunting in Olivia Music Hall. The evening featured a historic skit, food, and a wide variety of dances.

A few hours later, as the sun began to set on the West Coast, the California juniors hosted a welcoming dance of their own, with a decidedly less formal theme: “Thomas Aquinas College Zoo.” Held on the basketball courts, the dance featured zoo-themed food and decorations, including animal crackers, “monkey bread,” and balloon animals. A student-produced video — Once Upon a Time at TAC — told the story of a campus Banana Empire overturned by Curious George and the Man in the Yellow Hat.

“This is truly a Catholic center of learning because it reverberates with the ecclesial life of faith, a faith which unfolds the richness of reason and is given fervent expression liturgically, sacramentally, and through prayer, acts of charity, and a passion for justice.”
