Throughout October, as the leaves turned from green to myriad warm shades, students across Thomas Aquinas College’s two campuses excitedly looked forward to Halloween. And in keeping with TAC custom, on Saturday the Sophomore Class hosted dances — both in California and New England — to mark the occasion.

Harkening back to the childhood of many, the California sophomores selected as their theme “70’s Scooby Doo.” A crew worked tirelessly to transform St. Cecilia Hall’s Fritz B. Burns Auditorium into a colorful and zany dance floor. With a groovy “Mystery Van” in one corner, streamers and over-sized flowers all over, and plenty of other creative touches, the decor helped to cultivate a fun atmosphere, promising a night of fellowship and dancing.
The food reflected a similar level of care as well: Another group of students worked hard to lay out vegetable and fruit trays, spooky chocolate-dipped strawberries, baked goods, and all other manner of snacks and refreshments. No one would be going hungry on the dance floor!
And to start the night right, the sophomores put together a 20-minute parody video of Scooby Doo set at TAC. The hard work and creativity were apparent with hilarious jokes and wacky special effects, enthralling the dance attendees. Even those unfamiliar with Scooby Doo got a kick out of seeing their friends solve a mystery together on the big screen.

On the College’s eastern campus, sophomores bedizened the Tracy Student Center with eerie spider webs and ghostly figures — all featuring a haunted house. “We wanted a theme that allowed students to wear costumes, without being out of place, and fit with the holiday,” shared sophomore Trinity Duggan. “The haunted house theme was a great fit.”
After completing a spine-chilling maze, students witnessed a lively dance competition. The audience oohed and aahed in amazement at each flip and turn, and juniors Tanner Sheffield and Bridget Stoutz came away with a first-place finish. “The participants were so talented,” says freshman Jocelyn Topor. “Plus, the crowd was so energetic and fun.”
Students danced through the haunting evening, joined by friends from Thomas More College in New Hampshire and even some of their TAC-California counterparts, who had paid a special visit to join in on the fun.
