For three decades, the students of Thomas Aquinas College have come together on a weekend in November for the Turkey Bowl, an annual flag-football game. This year, for the first time, there were two Turkey Bowls — one on each coast.

Customarily, the Turkey bowl is played between the upperclassmen and underclassmen, as it was Saturday on the California campus. The upperclassmen took the win — as they have for 21 of the last 30 years — besting their younger peers by a score of 26-7.

On the newly opened New England campus, however — where, as of yet, there are no upperclassmen — the inaugural match was a battle between students (with one ringer: quarterback and tutor Dr. Stephen Shivone) and local alumni, quarterbacked by Associate Dean Tom Kaiser (’75). Once again, experience triumphed over youth, with the alumni crushing the students, 54-26.

“I am most grateful for Thomas Aquinas College’s resolute fidelity to the Church and her teachings. The young people whom you serve certainly are being formed to think with the Church and to defend the Faith with courage and charity.”
