Please pray for the repose of the soul of Roy Rohter, the healing of his wife, Theresa, and the consolation of their family. Early this morning, a mudslide swept Mr. and Mrs. Rohter from their home in Montecito, California. Mrs. Rohter was rescued and is in stable condition, but Mr. Rohter did not survive.

Longtime friends and benefactors of the College, Mr. and Mrs. Rohter are the parents of an alumna, Andrea (Krautmann ’00), whose husband, Jay (’00), is a fellow graduate. Mr. Rohter was the founder of St. Augustine Academy in Ventura, of which alumnus Michael Van Hecke (’86) is the current headmaster. “Roy’s life has been in service to his good, loving and ever-forgiving God,” says Mr. Van Hecke. “He has done so much for so many people and pro-life and Catholic education causes. … Thousands have been blessed by the Rohters’ friendship and generosity.”

“Roy Rohter was a man of strong faith and a great friend of Catholic education,” says Dr. Michael F. McLean, president of Thomas Aquinas College. “A founder and benefactor of classical Catholic schools, he played a pivotal role in the lives of countless young Catholic students — students who came to a deeper knowledge and love of Christ because of his vision, commitment, and generosity. A great friend of Thomas Aquinas College, he was a mentor and inspiration to both Lynda and me, always encouraging us to go the extra mile on behalf of the young people we serve. We will greatly miss his boundless energy and enthusiasm. We mourn his loss and our love goes out to Theresa and to his family.”

Eternal rest, grant unto him, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon him. May his soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace. Amen.
