Photos: First-Ever Cross-Country All-College Seminar
On Friday evening, groups of about 20 Thomas Aquinas College students from all classes — seniors and freshmen, sophomores and juniors — gathered in classrooms on both coasts for the All-College Seminar.
A semi-annual event, the Seminar is designed to allow all students to participate in a single, common activity, namely, reading, analyzing, and discussing a text that is not part of the College’s ordinary curriculum. This fall’s All-College Seminar, however — the first since Thomas Aquinas College launched its second campus in August — unified students like never before, transcending not only class years, but time zones.
The event began on the East Coast, where New England students, in sections led by two members of the teaching faculty, began the discussions of this semester’s text, “Barn Burning,” by William Faulkner. After the seminar, and in keeping with a tradition from the California campus, students and faculty met up for a pizza party in Gould Hall:
