On May 8, the District of Columbia Circuit Court will hear the federal government’s appeal of Thomas Aquinas College’s victory over the HHS Mandate. The government is asking the court to lift the permanent injunction that has thus far shielded the College from the federal policy compelling employers to provide contraceptive, sterilization, and abortifacient coverage in their health plans.

With the College’s religious freedom once more in jeopardy, President Michael McLean has asked students, faculty, staff, alumni, and friends of the College to join together in praying the following novena for religious liberty. The Novena prayer will be recited at the conclusion of all Masses offered in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel from April 30 to May 8.

Novena for Religious Liberty

Almighty God, Father of all nations, for freedom you have set us free in Christ Jesus. We praise and bless You for the gift of religious liberty, the foundation of human rights, justice, and the common good. Grant to our leaders the wisdom to protect and promote this fundamental freedom. By your grace may we courageously defend religious liberty for ourselves and for all those who live in this blessed land. In particular, we ask that you inspire the District of Columbia Court of Appeals to decide favorably in our case on May 8. We ask this through the intercession of Mary Immaculate, our patroness, and in the name of your Son, our Lord Jesus Christ, in the unity of the Holy Spirit, with whom You live and reign, one God, forever and ever. Amen.
