Please pray for the repose of the soul of Marie Ann Dean, who worked as an assistant librarian at the College from 2007 to 2008, and whose son, Edmund, is a member of the Class of 2010. Ms. Dean died in London on October 10.

A native of Davenport, Iowa, Ms. Dean was a published author of Melitensia fiction, an award-winning poet, and a well-known Catholic journalist. As a onetime Montessori homeschooler, she helped to establish classical-education schools and Montessori homeschools across the U.S. She also lectured on English Literature at the University of Notre Dame and on theology and literature at Bristol University (UK). Ms. Dean held a bachelor’s degree in history and philosophy/theology from Marycrest College and a master’s degree in English Literature from the University of Notre Dame.

“She was very dynamic person,” recalls Viltis Jatulis, the College’s librarian emeritus. “She was always full of life.”

A funeral requiem will be held at St. Joseph’s in Dorking, Surrey, UK, at1:30 p.m. on Monday, November 4. A memorial service will also be held at St. Mary’s Catholic Church in Davenport, Iowa, at a date still be determined.

 

Eternal rest, grant unto her O Lord and let perpetual light shine upon her. May her soul and all the souls of the faithful departed rest in peace.
