Interview: William McGurn: On Religious Freedom, the HHS Mandate & Liberal Education

 

William McGurn
William McGurn is a Vice President for News Corporation and author of the weekly “Main Street” column for The Wall Street Journal. From 2005 to 2008, he served as chief speechwriter for President George W. Bush.

Most of Bill’s career has been spent in journalism. He was the chief editorial writer for The Wall Street Journal and spent more than 10 years overseas — in Europe and in Asia — for Dow Jones. He has also written for a wide variety of publications, from Esquire, the Washington Post, and the New York Post to The Spectator of London and the National Catholic Register.

Bill is author of the book Perfidious Albion: The Abandonment of Hong Kong 1997, as well as a monograph on terrorism. A member of the Council on Foreign Relations, he holds a bachelor’s degree in philosophy from the University of Notre Dame and a master’s degree in communications from Boston University. Bill has served on a variety of voluntary organizations, including the Presidential Commission on White House Fellows. He now serves on the boards of both the Center for Ethics and Culture at the University of Notre Dame and of the social networking website Ricochet.com.

Bill is married to the former Julie Hoffman, and they have three daughters: Grace, Maisie, and Lucy. They live in Madison, N.J.
