Proceeds To Go to Student Financial Aid Fund

SANTA PAULA, Calif.-On Monday, May 24, 2010, the Board of Regents of Thomas Aquinas College hosted its fourth annual Golf Classic at Sherwood Country Club in Westlake Village, Calif. Proceeds from the event will benefit the more than 70 percent of students at the college who rely on assistance from the school's student scholarship fund in order to attend.

Regents and their colleagues from around Ventura county as well as members of the college's board of governors and faculty joined together for a day of golf to support student financial aid at the four-year, Catholic college. Among the distinguished participants were retired Cardinal Adam Maida of Detroit and retired Hall of Fame football player, Jim Brown, considered to be one of the greatest professional athletes the U.S. has ever produced.

After a full day of golf, participants enjoyed a reception and an awards ceremony. President Michael McLean was on hand to present awards for low gross team, low net team, individual low net, and individual low gross. In addition, a small auction was held, featuring tickets for the U.S. Open at Pebble Beach; a private tour of the Ronald Reagan Museum; and magnums of Chateau Montelena wine, signed by the winery's owner, Jim Barrett, along with signed copies of The Judgement of Paris that details Barrett's upset win at the 1976 Paris blind tasting.

Retired Cardinal Adam Maida of Detroit participated in the 4th Thomas Aquinas College Golf Classic at Sherwood Country Club and attended the reception and award ceremony after. James Fahey, a member of the Board of Regents from San Francisco, commented on the day saying, "It was wonderful to see so many friends come out to support Thomas Aquinas College.see so many friends come out to support Thomas Aquinas College.We had a great day of golf at a world-class venue in support of deserving students. We are blessed to have this nationally renowned institution right here in California, one that is preparing young men and women extremely well for intellectual and moral leadership in all walks of life. I am grateful to everyone for coming out and supporting it."

Thomas Aquinas College is known for its academic excellence and its generous financial aid assistance for qualified students. It was one of only 13 schools nationwide to be named this year to The Princeton Review's first-ever "Financial Aid Honor Roll."
