Inspired by a classic scene from Chariots of Fire — in which Harold Abrahams successfully completes Cambridge University’s Trinity Great Court Run before the King’s Gate Clock strikes 12 — the students of Thomas Aquinas College staged their own quad run this past weekend.

Eleven women and 23 men took turns, during which they sprinted, in pairs, a clockwise course around the academic quadrangle, beginning and ending by St. Bernardine of Siena Library.

Among the men, the Carey family of Wilton, California, dominated, claiming the top three positions:

  1. Stephen Carey (’16) — 38.64
  2. James Carey (’18) — 39.25
  3. Andrew Carey (’16) — 39.28

In the women’s field, a mere one-hundredth of a second separated first and second place. The top three finishers were:

  1. April Shonnard (’16) — 44.92
  2. Katie Wall (’18) — 44.93
  3. Veronica Kuenstle (’17) — 45.73
