Peggy Lawton
A dear, longtime friend of Thomas Aquinas College, Mary Holmes (Peggy) Lawton died at home in Kingwood, Texas, last month. Mrs. Lawton was the wife of one of the College’s founders, Lt. Col. William S. Lawton, Jr., who passed away in 2000. The College’s founding president, Dr. Ronald P. McArthur, described her as “a most charming and loving wife,” Bill’s “constant companion in body and spirit,” and the “‘sheet anchor’ of his life.”

The Darst Funeral Home in Kingwood has published a lovely tribute to Mrs. Lawton, which notes:

She was always grateful for family and friends that loved her and for the opportunities God had given her. She was humble, knew her faults and worked hard to change them. She had great compassion, she was always quick to forgive and let you know how much you were loved. Peggy leaves a legacy of love and prayer which carried her through until the end. Every night before she went to sleep she would always say: “See you tomorrow and if not, I’ll meet you at the gate.”

Please pray for Mrs. Lawton as she approaches the gate, and for the consolation of her family.
