Members of the Thomas Aquinas College Board of Governors meet three times a year to conduct the business of the College. In the fall, a lengthier meeting allows for fellowship, study, and prayer. This year’s fall retreat, held on the first weekend of November, provided the usual opportunity for Governors to visit with one another, with students, and with members of the faculty.
The retreat began with a reception for Governors, members of the faculty and their spouses in St. Thomas Plaza. The group then moved on to St. Joseph Commons for an all-College dinner. The evening featured a special guest speaker, Rev. Luke Mata, O.D., who discussed the Year of Faith, as well as a performance from the student choral group Chrysostomos.
Over the course of the dinner, President Michael F. McLean took the opportunity to welcome the two newest members of the Board, Patricia C. Lynch and Lloyd Noble II, and to honor three long-serving members of the faculty: Thomas J. Kaiser (30 years), John F. Nieto (20 years), and Andrew T. Seeley (20 years). The evening also featured cake and song to celebrate the 87th birthday of Chaplain Rev. Cornelius M. Buckley, who is currently marking his Golden Jubilee (50 years) in the priesthood. Dr. McLean presented Fr. Buckley with a Papal Blessing in honor of his service, and students gave him a spiritual bouquet of prayers and sacrifices offered in his behalf.
