Slideshow: Students Lead High School Confirmation Retreat
Over the course of the past academic year, several of the College’s students and recent graduates have led Confirmation and First Holy Communion classes at Our Lady of Guadalupe Church in nearby Santa Paula. This past weekend, the confirmation group held a retreat on the College’s campus for some 75 high school students, which included Mass in Our Lady of the Most Holy Trinity Chapel, talks on the Faith, prayer, and games:
Under the direction of Sr. Fe and Sr. Incarnacion, two Dominican nuns serving Our Lady of Guadalupe, the Thomas Aquinas College catechists are “teaching basics from the Catechism of the Catholic Church as joyful witnesses to the truth and beauty of our Lord Jesus and the Faith,” says Sarah Dufresne (’14). Joining Miss Dufresne in leading the first-year confirmation class are Liam Collins (’13), Andrew Rossi (’13), Alec MacIsaac (’14), and Edward Bueche (’14).
Meanwhile, students Sarah Massell (’16), Mary Massell (’15), and Kevin Cantu (’15) are busily preparing some of Our Lady of Guadalupe’s elementary-school students for the Sacraments of Penance and First Holy Communion. This younger cohort likewise spent some prayerful time on campus earlier this semester:
The Sisters and the pastor of Our Lady of Guadalupe, Rev. Charles Lueras, CRIC, report that they are delighted to have the College’s students and alumni teaching their youth, and that the children and their parents are thrilled to have young, dynamic teachers and mentors taking an interest in their education in the Faith. Likewise, their teachers are pleased to share their faith and witness these young souls grow in their love of Our Lord.
