The students of Thomas Aquinas College celebrated Mardi Gras a few days early this year with a Casino-themed dance in St. Joseph Commons on Saturday. Representing the Junior Class, which hosted the event, Jerome Gerard (’15) opened the evening by announcing that attendees were in Las Vegas — as evidenced by the card tables, decorative dice, and roulette wheel that filled the room.

The juniors then launched into an amusing skit that imagined the adventures of College tutors Dr. John Nieto and Dr. Anthony Andres visiting Vegas and its casinos. From there followed good dancing, excellent food, a Latin Dance competition, and the much-anticipated Win-a-Date drawings — a class fundraiser in which Seniors raffle off a number of their classmates for a group date later in the semester.

In the Latin Dance competition, Olivia Cobb (’16), paired with the visiting brother of one of her classmates, carried the day with two wins in the rumba and all-around categories. Seniors Alec MacIsaac and Elisabeth Cervantes won the salsa competition, and fellow seniors Zach Reynolds and Kristin Personius bested all others to claim the tango title.
