Shortly before Christmas Vacation, some 150 Thomas Aquinas College students staged a choral “flash mob” at a local shopping mall, singing several Christmas hymns and delighting surprised customers. The above, student-shot video of that impromptu performance has, in the last few days, generated considerable attention throughout the country.

“Thomas Aquinas College Students Stage Amazing Christmas Music Flash Mob,” proclaims a recent headline on the website College Insurrection, which shared the video with its readers. Nancy Griesemer, who writes about college issues for Examiner.com, included the “mob” among her list of Top Holiday Videos for 2015. And RedState.com has declared the video “enjoyable” not only for the music, but for “reminding people engaged in the most secular of activities of the Birth of Christ and the magnificent music that has been created to commemorate that event.” By bringing sacred music to a shopping mall, the author concludes, the College’s students are “bearding commercialism in its den.”

Merry Christmas!
