On May 6 the Integral Alumni Council (IAC) at St. Mary’s College of California honored Thomas Aquinas College President Michael F. McLean for his “outstanding contribution to the great books education.” The Council, which represents graduates of St. Mary’s Integral Program of Liberal Arts, presented the award in conjunction with its annual Br. Sixtus Robert Smith Lecture. The IAC’s Board of Directors selected Dr. McLean, said Ernest Pierucci, an attorney and graduate of the St. Mary’s Integral program, “in recognition of [his] career at Thomas Aquinas College.”

The Integral Program and Thomas Aquinas College have a longstanding relationship that goes back more than four decades. Three of the College’s founders — Dr. Ronald P. McArthur, Dr. John W. Neumayr, and Mr. Marcus R. Berquist — once taught in the program. Among their students were former Thomas Aquinas presidents Dr. Thomas E. Dillon and Peter L. DeLuca, as well as Dr. McLean himself, who graduated from St. Mary’s in 1968.
