At the recently concluded Napa Institute conference, Catholic leaders from across the United States contemplated questions of God’s justice and mercy, aided by the words of St. Thomas Aquinas, and guided by two members of Thomas Aquinas College’s teaching faculty.

For the fourth consecutive year, College officials hosted a breakfast and two seminars at this year’ conference, “Equipping Catholics in the Next America,” at the Meritage Resort and Spa in Napa California. In keeping with the Jubilee Year of Mercy, the seminars examined the relationship between God’s justice and His mercy, as described in Question 21 of St. Thomas’ Summa Theologiae. Some 38 of the conference’s attendees participated in the two separate, but simultaneous, discussions, led by College President Michael F. McLean and Vice President Paul J. O’Reilly.

“It was a joy to discuss with such sincere and honest scholars,” wrote one attendee in his post-seminar evaluation. Added another, “The discussion was thoughtful, enlightening, and humorous!”
