A blessed trend in recent years is that alumni deacons — who, while studying in Rome in preparation for their priestly ordinations — have been asked to chant the Gospel at various papal liturgies. The latest graduate to be so honored is Frater Miguel (Gaspar’08) Batres, O.Praem. On Good Friday, Frater Miguel proclaimed the words of Christ during the papal Celebration of the Passion of our Lord at St. Peter’s Basilica:

By God’s grace, Frater Miguel, a Norbertine monk at St. Michael’s Abbey in Silverado, California, will be ordained to the priesthood on June 24. His fellow Norbertine Rev. Jacob (Joseph ’06) Hsieh, O.Praem., was blessed to chant the Exsultet at the 2015 papal Easter Vigil; and in 2012 another graduate of the College, Rev. Francis Marotti (’07) chanted the Gospel at the papal Epiphany and Easter Vigil Masses.
